Solo Performance

​I have been performing as a solo musician since 2001, and have amassed a wealth of experience in this area of work.

I have performed at weddings, garden parties, restaurants…in fact, almost any venue where a sophisticated solo musician is required! Recent venues include the Sandbanks Hotel (Poole), Harbour View Hotel (Poole) Westcliff Marriott hotel (Bournemouth), The Strand Palace Hotel (London), and The Wembley Hilton (London),

I have over eight hours of material, covering a wide range of musical styles from smooth jazz saxophone pop covers to classical flute and keyboards. I play at sensible volumes, and have top quality equipment which ensures a clear and pleasant sound in any venue (including outdoors!). I am fully insured for public liability.

Tuition

With over thirty years experience teaching music in schools and colleges, I am able to offer a wide variety of services whether you are a beginning student or an already accomplished musician looking to improve or expand your existing skills.I can offer tuition on saxophone, clarinet and flute from beginner through to diploma level. I teach all of the syllabus requirements of the recognized examination boards, including the jazz examinations of the ABRSM and Trinity/Guildhall.

​I offer a complete examination service, including preparation for aural tests and theory. I can also submit entries if required, and arrange any necessary accompaniment.I specialize in teaching jazz improvisation, and have a large selection of unique study materials which I have written over the years and are not available anywhere else!I am at present the teacher of clarinet and saxophone at Bournemouth University, and also hold the jazz saxophone teaching position at Sherborne School. I hold a similar post at Poole Grammar School. Qualifications I hold include the LGSM in both clarinet and saxophone performance, the LTCL in clarinet teaching, the GDLM graduate diploma in jazz studies (City of Leeds College of Music) and a PGCE as a specialist teacher of music (University of Central England).I have a full enhanced CRB clearance, and can supply references and testimonials on request.

Arranging and Transcription

I am able to offer a complete arranging and transcription service. Whether you require a simple lead sheet or a full orchestration, look no further!I have had many years experience arranging for entertainers, bands, and solo instrumentalists. I take pride in the presentation and legibility of my music, which is prepared on the industry standard Sibelius software (although I am more than happy to supply hand written parts too). I am able to write bespoke arrangements for any combination of instruments, and also to write arrangements which will work with a variety of different lineups (especially useful for cabaret artistes!). I am also able to transcribe from recordings accurately, and to alter existing arrangements (such as adding horn charts to rhythm section parts).Classical,big band, pop/rock, jazz lead sheets……get in touch and discuss your requirements!
